Bloomin' Onion Dip (scd)

Make you think of Outback? Me too. The truth is that I probably will never eat another deep-fried blooming onion again though, as I don't think anyone ever really should. In any case, this gives the flavor of all that in a sauce that is as versatile as ketchup.

1 Tbsp butter
1 onion, thinly sliced
1 Tbsp apple cider vinegar
2 Tbsp honey
1 Tbsp mustard
1 tsp salt
1 cup mayonnaise

Caramelize the onion by melting the butter in a saucepan or cast iron pan and addin the raw onion. Cook until well browned and soft. Add to a blender or food processor (or VITAMIX!) along with the vinegar, honey, and mustard. Blend until smooth. Scoop out into bowl and fold in 1 cup of mayonnaise.

This makes a wonderful dip for all sorts of things, it also makes an excellent condiment for sandwiches, salads, and other food stuffs. My favorite though might be to spread it over chicken breasts and bake at 350 until done. The mayo and vinegar make the chicken super moist and add tons of flavor. I usually reserve some to the side for extra dipping sauce, I guess I have a thing for dipping sauces anyways. Hope you enjoy!

  1. Do you think yogurt would work as a sub for the mayo in this?

    1. Definitely worth a try~ I would just make sure the other ingredients are completely cooled before mixing.
